While technically not a YA novel, I feel that everyone should read this book. Based on a true story, this novel chronicles the love story between the death camp prisoner in charge of making the number tattoos on the wrists of incoming prisoners, and a young woman recently imprisoned. It is a remarkable story, that proves that hope can exist in the very darkest of places, and the writer deftly weaves this narrative while not shying away from the horrors that Auschwitz was responsible for. At once a love story, and a complex account of the twisted psychology involved in the running of the camp, this book also focuses on life after Asuchwitz and how people can bear to keep going after having suffered hell on earth. It will make you cry and smile at the same time, as you follow the two brave people who never gave up on each other through their horrifying experience. Buy

This book was written in 1998, a fairly long time ago, but that does not make it any less relevant. Far from it! A monumental YA book, Kissing Doorknobs addresses the reality of obsessive compulsive disorder and explains the diverse way in which it can affect people, as well as the arduous, difficult path, led by someone trying to get diagnosed accurately and advocate for themself. This fictional story about a young girl living in a family that does not want to accept her problems covers so many different aspects of mental health, and the story is written so well that you completely forget you are reading! The dialogue feels real and carries the story really well, and it can be read anywhere at any time. It is perfect for pleasure reading time at school, passing time on a plane trip, reading at the beach or the pool....And it manages to explore dark topics without being depressing. Heartless by Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite prequels to a story we all know and love. Marissa Meyer does a wonderful job of mixing romance and adventure. This book will make your heart swell, burst, and bleed. You won’t be able to stop reading it, and once you do you’ll keep thinking about it. It is one of my favorite books and if you read it, you will love it as much as I do. Buy
Written by: Taylor Winstead An Abundance of Katherines (John Greene)- While John Greene might be best known for "The Fault in Our Stars," this little discussed book is my personal favorite. The character(Colin Singleton) navigates life and love while on the spectrum, with the help of his freewheeling, hilarious friend Hassan. On a cross country trip to a tiny country town, they have a series of hilarious misadventures and sweet moments. By the end of this book you will be happier, and you will have learned something about life! Buy Written by: Caroline McCormick
